The NorthBay dream has been to develop a property into an experience that will impact students from
all across the Chesapeake community, with a state of the art environmental education center, focused on
teaching and experiencing real environmental science in the field. Serving over 350 students each week in
a 4 day-5 night experience, the $33M learning, living and group activity center was designed to minimize
impact on the land, and enhance the existing features of the property.
From this outstanding base, NorthBay's entire site then provides a learning laboratory, where
students will have their most meaningful Chesapeake Bay experience, combined with exposure to exceptional
leadership, a focus on life skills and character, while offering discovery in a high adventure setting.
Interactive learning is the foundation for the students experience, a hands-on approach committed to the
reality that students will retain far more of what they discover for themselves. Through a partnership
with the Department of Natural Resources of the State of Maryland, the Erickson Foundation of Baltimore,
and the concerted efforts of a group of determined individuals, the NorthBay educational experience is in
operation now on 97 acres and 1/2 mile of beachfront, on the Elk Neck Peninsula, at the northern end of
the Chesapeake Bay. A unique location, for a unique and special mission.
