Adventure
The NorthBay Adventure program works in conjunction with the education program to challenge students to step out of their comfort level and face their fears. Our Adventure Program consists of a high ropes course, kayaking in the bay, indoor and outdoor climbing walls, 4 zip lines, and our giant swing. We take a lot of pride in our adventure equipment and students at NorthBay tend to highlight these activities as one of their favorite parts of the experience.
Our adventure program is designed to have a high perceived risk but a very low actual risk. All of our Adventure activities are inspected by our Adventure Coordinator - Pat Dingle - monthly and by an outside agency yearly. Our adventure staff is highly trained to operate all of the adventure equipment. In addition, we are a member of the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT); and meet all of their industry standards.
We believe that there is a learning opportunity in every decision a student makes, whether it be completing the entire ropes course, or deciding not to go down the zip line. Our adventure staff follows a principle of "Challenge by Choice" where they will encourage and assist any and all students on the Adventure Activities, but the final decision to go is the student's. Through the positive reinforcement of the adventure staff, and student's ownership of their decision to participate, we look to empower the students and their decisions.
